If you can somehow persuade them that it was that way when you bought it, then the issue isn't so much a warranty problem as it is that they sold you a defective guitar. Unknown, of course, but if you've been complaining of the intonation problem right from the git go then they should honor your word.
I can see how a split might allow one side to shift just enough to throw the intonation off a smidgeon.
Not sure where your luthier gets his info about German spruce, though. First I've ever heard of that one. If Alvarez or Yamaha tried using it, they'd probably screw it up, but if Bill is using it, you can bet he knows all about its own qualities and how to allow for anything it needs. Good luck. Tell them at McCabe's that a bunch of guys are watching to see how they handle this...

I agree with the above, you just have to be delicate with how you threaten them Wink

They love Collings guitars there, and Louis can really play 'em too. I almost bought an all Mohagany 002H that he walked around the store playing for 45 minutes. Maybe ask him to play yours and see if he notices the sound your talking about, I'd be surprised if he doesn't hear it and you'll get a chance to see his chops.

Not that you should have to walk on egg shells to get this handled correctly, but at the same time, I've seen people of all sorts in there trying to pull scams. They're very exposed to and in the middle of lots of different kinds of people there.

This is how I would approach it with them:
I'm not sure where you live but if you can call and find out when Louis is working. Maybe give him a call and tell him that you have something that you need to talk to him about and want to make sure he'll be there when you come in. Then,go in with your guitar, it's case, and all your receipts and paperwork. Begin by letting him know that you've been talking to some friends online about this predicament you're in and that one of them has been buying instruments from them for over 20 years and he told you that he knew Louis would take care of it. By this time he'll really be wanting to know what the issue is.

Again, great tip, rocknrollrjm. I'll be sure to follow your advise. I'm not going to 'threaten' anybody - but I feel this IS something that they need to remedy. I'll be picking up the guitar from the luthier in the next day or two (he's doing some other work for me), and I'll check out his findings. Then I'll call Louis and see what we can do.

Thanks all for your concern - this is a GREAT community.

Bummer, but Collings is very good about taking care of it's customers. These things happen even with the best made wooden products. I'm confident that Collings will do the right thing.
