As a part of my continuing (and utterly pointless) efforts to improve the tunes site, I've added a video section. I picked up an HD camcorder a few months ago and finally recorded something with it last night.

The video is in HD and the audio is recorded with my usual guest room studio setup. The only real limitation at this point -- and it is substantial -- is lack of talent.

Anyway, the first video is posted. It's a piece I wrote a few weeks ago that's patterned after a Bach prelude. The direct link to the relevant part of the site is here:

VIDEO LINK

I'll be posting all of the videos to Vimeo. I had the first one embedded in my site through iWeb, but the performance was lacking a bit. So I bagged that idea and just have direct links now. Comments and suggestions are welcome, as always.

Oh, and I actually took the time to put together tablature for this one. If you have an interest, a link to the pdf file is below. It's pretty simple.

PRELUDE 1 TAB

Peace,

Mike

Very nice composition and playing Mike. It'd be nice to get a tour around the music room to meet some of the other residents. Oh, just found your Permanent Residents photos. Smile

The song and playing sound excellent and it's great that you've been able to add video and still maintain your high recording quality. Also, really nice guitar.

I thought it was nice of Guitar Center to let you film there . . . Smile

Thanks ... the audio recording setup is just like it always is. And that's good. I think it would make me nuts to use the camera mic (even though it seems to do a pretty good job), simply because once I get what I view as a "keeper" take of something I'm not fond of the idea of doing it again. This way, I can kill two birds with one stone -- video AND a separate high-quality MP3.

I passed along your comment about Guitar Center to the thoroughbreds hanging up in that room. A couple of the Gretsches shuffled their feet and then sat there meekly trying not to make eye contact with anyone else, but the other guys kinda snorted and tossed their manes. I told them to lose the attitude or I'd put them on eBay ...

And Dale, the music room doubles as our guest room. It certainly would be an interesting "theme room" for a B&B. Maybe I can hang some ukuleles or something in the adjoining bath.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Mike

Mike,

I thoroughly enjoyed your video. It's fantastic quality, I was able to make it full screen without any loss of picture.

Your guest room studio is the envy of the forum and your style is something that inspires me to continue practicing!

Thanks!

Of course I was referring to the "High-End Room" at Guitar Center . . . OK, OK, still not good enough. What I really meant to say was that it was nice of Mr. Gruhn to let you use his place . . .

Don't take it personally. They are hard to live with. Every time I pick up a guitar in there and start playing, they all start whispering and snickering. I'm usually pretty successful at filtering out those specific frequencies on recordings, but if you listen hard enough ...

And any time you play an E chord the whispering turns to murmurs as they all ring sympathetically, right?

When I'm recording I have to throw a shirt over the nearby acoustic guitars which I keep on stands, otherwise they'll find a way to make it onto the recording.

Nice video Mike!
