This is a tune by Pete Huttlinger called "Darcy's Guitar" named after a guitar he tried out one day at Cotten Music (maybe some type of Collings, who knows). . .

Nice job. That is one of the few strict alternating thumb pieces that is not boring to me.

-- thanks for listening and comments (I've been called a dud, crud, a pud -- never a stud . . .)

rick, yeah, I agree that an alternating thumb can be kind of monotonous -- unless you can get the kind of groove and rock-solid time that Pete H. plays with -- I was trying to be like Pete, but I may have rushed the time here and there.

You played it fine. I don't know about the grove thing as it is simply strict straight time, however this song actually has an interesting and compelling melody and many of the ilk don't. Also Pete plays the treble loudly enough and lets the melody sustain enough that the alternating thumb notes don't dominate the whole tune - tames it even more by muting the base notes in many places.

Rick -- you are absolutely right about Pete H's ability to keep the bass notes under control with muting and great technique so he can bring out the melody. What I meant about his groove is that he gets a good feel on 2 & 4, almost like you can hear a snare or a high-hat when he plays even though it's not there -- also I think he gives it a great feel by staying behind the beat a hair (or a fraction of a hair . . .).

Darcy's Guitar was inspired by Darcy Cotten's C10 and was composed on the spot at the store.
