My son's band The Rustlanders out of State College, PA have released their first CD. Fans of country, rock, blues will enjoy. Today they reminded me of The Jayhawks other days a blend of their favorites The Band,Dylan,Petty,Gillian&Dave,Emmylou,Neil Young,Lucinda and Hank Williams, etc. ...old school with a modern sound and all original songs.

Thanks, yes I'm real proud of him and his bandmates. My son Corry is the bass player. All four members play guitar and at least one other instrument and have a lot of original songs.

The State College scene has 2 other great bands The Nightcrawlers and Ted McCloskey and The Hi-Fi's. It's just a matter of time before Ted gets "discovered". Check out this you tube link to see what I mean.

It's one of the best written songs I've heard and the video is a perfect match.

Nice stuff by the Rustlanders. I hear a bit of Ryan Adams, and that ain't a bad thing.

Here's another recent review from Americana UK.com

The Rustlanders "The Rustlanders" (Independent 2007)

Fantastic shit kicking debut

Crazy Horse 1972 - this is them re-incarnated. I kid you not. These guys are the real deal. Rough around the edges, grizzled harmonies, Hammond organs, wailing harmonicas, rusted guitar chops, lonesome high voices. I could go on in and in fact I will. Guitar solos that speak rather than fill ‘Blind Faith’ has some of the best chops this reviewer has heard in ages.

There is a swaggering confidence here that just fills the songs with a life of their own, I bet they’re awesome live. All the influences are here (NY, The Band, The Dead, The Jayhawks etc ) but they have been subsumed to produce an individual band sound . This is as exciting to listen to the first time as Hollywood Town Hall was. It’s that good.

This album should break these boys into the big time if there is any justice and if they should travel to these shores I would urge checking them out.
Some might say the name is vaguely crap – I would agree and perhaps some of it could be labelled as country rock or Americana by numbers but they are numbers that you would sell your soul for and frankly it’s a cheap shot at something wonderful.

If you want authenticity these boys are up there with the best (they're probably accountants but it doesn't matter). On debut!!! Stunning.

The Rustlanders have some shows coming up that are in "Collings country" so thought I'd give a heads-up.

9/30 The Rustic Cowboy, Keithville,LA
10/1 Threadgills Austin,TX opening for Ryan Bingham
10/2 House Of Blues Dallas,TX
10/3 Warehouse Live Houston,TX w/Ryan Bingham
10/6 Sticky Fingerz Rock N Roll Chicken Shack,Little Rock, Ar-Kansas
10/10,11,12 with Grace Potter and The Nocturnals Philly,Towson,MD,Pittsburgh
11/1 Erskine College Due West,SC w/Phantom Planet

They've added John Rattie on Hammond Organ and Fender Rhodes. John is brother of drummer Chris Rattie. He plays guitar as well and does lead and backing vocals. Great addition to the band/sound.
