Curious...
I live in NW Ohio, Toledo to be exact.
Over the past several months fishing has been overwhelmingly spectacular!
Walleye and Smallmouth bass have been the targeted fish of choice.
And soon as the nearby river drops, Channel and Flathead catfish will be plentiful.

I stopped fishing when we moved back to California from Jackson Hole. After that, what they call fishing here just doesn't get it. tom

Dang, Kev, great boat! That takes dedication - I'm impressed.

Looking at your pics took me back to the early 90s when I lived on the coast in Wilmington, NC. I bought a boat in '90, fished like crazy for the next 2-1/2 years, then upgraded to a 24' Mako cuddy cabin walk-around and fished some more until we moved in '97. Dang, I miss it.

There is NOTHING else like fishing offshore. Fishing lakes and creeks just ain't the same... once you've had the "real thing" you're spoiled for life...

Not like you folks chasing the big ones - but I fly fish for wild brown trout, of which there are many in my local upland river up in the North Pennine area of the UK.

Great sport and even better eating and only a 5 minute walk from the house.

Ack. we lived for two years on the banks of the Snake River in Jackson Hole, and dinner was ten steps and a few casts away. Had the grill going before I even wet a line.
California, not far from here, used to have salmon in abundance. Those days are over. tom

Alright! Looks like I'm in good company here.
Too bad we can't attach pics in this section of the forum.
I've got some nice pig smallies and hog walleyes pics I'd like to share.

1st smallie trip of the year we caught & released 60 @ Lake St.Clair.
2nd trip 74 - buddy caught a 20.5".
Lake Erie 3 days ago and picked up 10 walleye including a 25".
In April, took 20 walleye from the Maumee river including a 26" - can only take 4 per day.

007 - used to fish, grew up in Minnesota.
Got a question for you:
Almost every Memorial Day, we drive over the Maumee River Bridge on 475, just past Perrysburg, heading to or from 23 in MI. I always see a lot of fisherman in waders all up and down the river.

Is this in conjunction with some Walleye spawning run ? What are they catching ?

Let's hope you have not seen any Snakeheads. Nice to see you do the catch and release too.
A 20.5 inch Smallmouth is near trophy size. Must have been one heck of a fight.

Pete Huttlinger's an avid fisherman, even has a theme song for a fishing show...so I see no reason why you could not post pics.

Randy,

Memorial Day is very late in the Walleye run.
At that time, its mostly White Bass (they arrive after the walleye) and a few straggler 'eyes. Both species of fish swim up the river from Lake Erie to spawn. There are strict guidelines you must follow to fish the run - single hook, 4 fish limit, fish must be hooked in the mouth, time chart - sunrise to sunset only, etc. If you were to drive over the bridge almost any day in April, you would see massive lines of anglers fishing for Walleye.

Also in the mix starting in late April are Freshwater Drum, Channel & Flathead Cats, and usually three types of Carp/Suckers - Buffalo Carp, Redhorse, and Quillback. Some of the aforementioned fish can be well over 10 lbs. and over 30"!

Driving over the bridge - looking to the east, they are fishing off Bluegrass Island on the north side of the river and Buttonwood Park on the south. If you look to the west they are fishing along what's called the Jerome road access.

For more info. check out www.maumeetackle.net

About pics, I don't have a host site and can't attach them to this section of the forum. Maybe I'm missing something? Suggestions.

BTW - what's a snakehead?
A fish? or actual snake.
If you're talking snakes, yes this time of year I see quite a few in the river. Yikes!

Snakehead is an invasive species that's an apex predatory fish. People have them in aquariums as pets, but when they get too big, let them go in local waters. It is wreaking havoc on many fisheries. It can live out of water and I think crawl over land. It's a bad dude.

Here's a link:

For posting pics.
Try this - go into photobucket. At the bottom of each pic are 4 categories or URL listings.
The last one should be labeled IMG Code

Left click on that. A copy message should come up. Now right click on your mouse and select copy. Now paste it into your forum thread's message. (this should work)

You can also re-size the pics in photobucket, re-save the reduced size pics under a different name ( have not tried this)

Tom, fishing the Yellowstone and Snake rivers is about as good as it gets. South Andros Island in the Bahamas would be my next choice. But that mountain fishing is a religious experience right up there with music.
