Since it has been well established that this is the best Forum about the best guitars Eek, can't we only limit profanity, and offensive language and NOT try to edit content we don't care for. Where does that end...?
I happen to like annoyingly long, meaningless, off-thread posts, such as half (only half?) of mine.
Save the Rambling Forumites, man.

Rambling is not the issue. I've rambled with the best of them. Or was it something about appropriate rambling under appropriate forum headings? Repetition is... so boring.

P.S. After all, we are among friends and a little poking and reminding is well, fun sometimes. Smile

Wow, this sure got interesting Wink Frankly, the main reason I started this thread was what I saw as a trend that there would be a listing of a guitar for sale, then numerous replies joking about the seller and/or that persons guitar, or digressing into a discussion of other issues, etc. Seemed to me that just wasn't really fair. Actually Sonoman, I was thinking in part of YOUR for sale posting. Just seemed to me it was best to leave this section to those actually interested in the transaction at issue. But hey, no problem. If folks want to bomb away on a transaction they have no real interest in, so be it. But I think that will reduce the usefulness of this section, which is to bring together a buyer and seller potentially, duh.

Well, Tom F, as I read through this thread, it appears to me that the majority would prefer to keep the conversations in the forums where they belong. In any case, it seems that most of the conversations in the the FS,WTB or Trade forum go something like this anyway:

"Woe is me -- I have to sell this guitar."
"Poor you -- don't sell the guitar".
"Well, it is the greatest guitar EVER, but I still need to sell it"
"Don't sell it. By the way -- what is the nut width?"
"Nut width 1.75". And the price has been lowered on the greatest and most unique guitar ever."
"PM sent."

I can't say we'd be missing much...

Well, I hate to sound an optimistic note on a thread that seems to specialize in toxicity, but I've sold two guitars to thread members in the last three months. Both transactions were amiable, reliable, smooth, and mutually beneficial. It beats the snot out of ebay or paying 20 percent in consignment fees. Maybe it's just me, but it's a lemons/lemonade dichotomy. Of course there are repetetive patterns, of which I have personally been guilty more than once. This is not a creative writing forum. It's about guitars, and, quite often, about GAS induced buying and selling of same. Why this should be a source of controversy is a complete mystery to me. Maybe we can get a group rate on bulk Midol. I enjoy this forum very much, and hate to see it sucked into the mire that so often typifies internet interchanges. Wow; I turned into Pollyanna. The gingham dress is too tight, though. And I don't have the hair for pigtails. Rats.

I really, really enjoy the chit-chat (minus the extremely thinly-veiled, immature, quasi-intellectial personal attacks) in the FS/FT section. It results in bumps to the top and some good entertainment. Keep it up. Keep The Collings Forum interesting.

I think you missed the point entirely. Tom F made a valid suggestion that might improve a part of the forum. I agree with the majority of his thinking. I too could do without some of the seriously negative comments, but we do live in a free world- at least I thought we did. Members who respond in whatever way they do, whether it is "OPTIMISTIC" or not (sans extreme personal attacks and gutter language), should not be marginalized.
The issue is not whether or not this section provides an excellent way to market our guitars. We all know that it does. I am also happy to contribute a portion of those proceeds to keep this wonderful forum alive. But to relegate, in your above comments, other members to the "toxicity, controversy, mire", group is just another form of censor.
It sounds to me that many members are just plain bored with the same dialogue and the same recurring threads that occur with regularity. This is another form of "MIRE" that sucks. WHAT'S WRONG WITH A LITTLE HOOPLA AND HELL RAISIN' OCCASIONALLY? Are we all supposed to behave like we're still in school? Boys and girls will cause and should cause mischief now and then. Nothing wrong with a little jostling. I can tell you've never been in a mosh pit before. No, I don't want to just sit in my rocking chair and compose prose in some pseudo-intellectual way all the time. Now that's "TOXICITY".
We have had some colorful, "CONTROVERSIAL" members in the past. While they used to leave me head-a-scratchin' and steamin', they nevertheless added spice AND life to the forum and that would be a welcome thing today. They also had a "BENEFICIAL" way of bringing the Collings folks closer together. On the other hand, members who continually crow ad nauseum about their guitars being better than everyone else's have a way of making other forum members feel like second class citizens who don't even have a decent Colling's in their meager collections to play anymore. Let's not forget one thing though, even these forum members still have a right to vote.
I sure do miss Heimer.

Commentary is not censorship. No one's been marginalized. And the "pseudo" in intellectual is in the wit, whole or half, of the beholder. And I don't own a rocking chair. Have a lovely day.

I totally agree with the OP. I have listings in the forum right now, and if some of the comments that have been lobbed onto other listings were on mine, I'd be seriously pissed.

If you don't like a listing, ask the person for clarification, or ignore it. Don't barf on someone's business transaction without a really, really good reason.
