Sadly, this ridiculous post is an example of exactly what Mikey was talking about. And as a long-time forum member (who cares), and Collings owner (has nothing to do with the quality of my posts), I completely agree with his take on el-lambo's handling of the situation. It was completely inflammatory, then added a criticism of a forum member...for doing exactly what he was doing.

The mistakes need to be acknowledged so as not to be repeated, and to show class. Being a moderator does not give you a direct line to the truth. Let's cut the mob behavior here.

Amen to that!

You may want to go back and re-read my post and the quotation above it. My comments were directed at his disparaging remarks towards the forum and everyone on it -- not his criticism of the moderator. Ridiculous -- I think not.

If Elambo made a mistake and someone felt strongly that what he was doing was wrong, then why did'nt someone e-mail him and reason with him about it. Help each other out.

Randy, a great point. I strung my OM1A with 80/20s yesterday (I'm usually a Phos Bronze player), and it has really warmed up the sound of this git. Now, as the Celtics are throttling the Lakers (can you tell I'm a Warriors fan Wink), my Collings is singing. Life is good.

Watching, playing, reading, typing... Busy. Is the game boring?

I wish I was watching - instead I'm trying to find two new and enormous leaks in two different areas of my new house. Funny how they appeared just after the warranty ran out.

So much water, I should use it to put out these fires here...

I don't care much for those of the love it or leave it persuasion. I got your post, no re-read necessary. The welcome this guy has gotten is ridiculous. IMO.

I interpreted mikey's original post as simply supporting buster's original theme -- that moderators are unnecessary. This is a valid position, isn't it? Some people would prefer a completely free forum to say whatever they please without any moderation.

Personally, I see two separate issues here: 1) Are moderators, in general, necessary? 2) If they are necessary, where are they supposed to draw the line and for what reasons? If these issues could be discussed calmly and rationally, I think it would be fairly interesting.

I may be wrong but I don't think any one in this thread was suggesting that moderators are totally unnecessary. Just one or two percent of the forum members could quickly contaminate the conversations with personal attacks, profanity, and completely off topic comments.
Where to draw the line is a tricky business and problematic when some people seem to want to test the limits and other people react to that in an escalating manner. Threads like this one where things get heated illustrate the need for forum members to cut the next person a little slack, avoid “reading into posts” things that are not there, keep comments focused on ideas rather than personalities, and not add fuel to the fire for the sake of adding fuel to the fire to watch things burn.
Moderators due to their position and influence have an extra responsibility and onus upon themselves to be moderate and even handed in what they do and say. That and the time and effort involved make it a position I certainly would not want to have. All in all the Collings forum is one of the better moderated forums and I thank elambo for helping keep it that way.

Do you think he was looking for a welcome? It seems to me he came through the front door looking for a fight.

But -- okay -- Mikey -- welcome to the Collings Forum! It's a special place where even guys like me and Sonoman can get along (I don't know how he puts up with me Smile ). We talk Collings guitars and Sonoman teaches us a new vocabulary word at least once per day. Oh, and don't forget to hug the moderator every once in awhile -- his can be a lonely and thankless job. Wink

The problem is the lack of respect. I mean how is it that your going to start a thread with,
"We don't need no stinkin' moderators!" I take offense to that. How about, starting the thread with, "Can someone please explain why we need a moderator!"
Then you get new people who come out of nowhere and start commenting like they have been around here for a long time. You can't get away with that in any setting, be it at work or at a party, especially if your new. That will cause you to be outcast right away.
