Kevin at Hill Country and Danny at Acoutic Pro Musician have absolute best for trade or purchase in my opinion.

Cool,

Thanks again all,

I'll check out the inventory at Hill Country and Acoustic Pro.

I will also check out elderly. Can't remember where they are.

I have an expensive guitar in my site line and will likely need to do a trade/sell.

Stuart

Add Pat at Quincy's in Austin as a straight up trading guy. I was very pleased at my Collings for Collings there, and anticipate additional business sometime as finances and needs permit.

I also think Kevin at Hill Country would be a great choice.

As for Elderly, I have an electric there on consignment and I am less than pleased, although not angry ...yet. Time will tell, and I suppose it is about being patient, but I will look elsewhere next time.

I've sold some guitars through Elderly. If it's worth over $500 they will only take a 15% cut. One thing I've found w/ them though, is once you get your guitar to them, they'll assess it. Then, they might tag on some fix-it fees. They do this so it's in prime shape to be put up for sale.

I bought my OM2h through Elderly 2 1/2 years ago. It was a good deal for a sunburst sitka OM2h. They helpfully described it over the phone and I had an approval period, but, in fact, although it was playable, the bridge had been reglued badly and it needed a neck reset. Elderly did not describe these problems to me, and they were not mentioned in their written description on their website. I didn't notice the problems until after the approval period had ended, 'cause my mom was dying, and I was preoccupied. I played the guitar with these problems for over two years. I should have been more aware, but they should have disclosed these issues. My conclusion, when buying used from anyone, inspect the instrument carefully, don't let your desire for a new instrument blind you to it's actual condition, and if it's a really good deal, ask yourself, why?

I did contact Elderly, but decided on Kim at Cotton. Thing is, decided to try to sell if first, and got a decent offer, so will do it myself this time.

Dmargo, that's an aweful story. During such a difficut time you should not have had to examine the guitar. There was no need for that and I agree it's not a good sign on their part.

I have had two questionable experiences out of two now, and will keep looking for a store I can deal with. I hope you got the guitar well a repaired and were rewarded with a fine sound. I would have been tempted to go straight to Collings for repairs and complaint.

Stuart

I'll put in my 2 cents: Dave's Guitar Shop in La Crosse, Wisconsin (www.davesguitar.com) is my choice for consignment sales, regular sales, etc. I won't buy/trade anywhere else anymore. Only drawback is that Dave's is not an authorized dealer for Collings...but should be IMO!

Long, long time ago (before I knew about Dave's Guitar), I had good luck with Elderly as well.
