Yeah, I just listened to the CD yesterday and it's got THE SPOOK in spades. Where has the spook gone? I haven't heard it in any new music since Gillian Welch hit the scene.

Love Neil Young!
Although he can be a spoiled brat at times, I think a newer/relatively young artist that definitely has the spook is Ryan Adams. He covers a lot of ground and has a respect for those who've gone before musically.
I especially like the CD's "Heartbreaker" and "Gold."
Also, Steve Earle most certainly has the spook.

Call me old school. My favorite stuff by NY is his work with Buffalo Springfield, and then the Neil Young and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere recordings.

dave, There you go! Gold gets on my player once a month since it came out. A vastly under-rated disc, lost in the sea of mediocrity.

Yeah Randy, some of the songs on "Gold" just cut me right to the bone..."La Cienega Smiled"..."Harder Now that it's Over"...then the rocking stuff like "Firecracker" and "Rescue Blues"... sometimes it makes me want to hang it up.... On another note...it seems that Mr. Young keeps his guitar tuned-down at least a half or a full step...right? Just an impeccable guitar sound live. Dave

Adams on Gold captures that sound of The Who and The Faces in a real way....invest in that Gold.
I too love the NY BS stuff. What a contrast between the poppy version of On The Way Home by BS and Neil's more mature acoustic versions.Expecting To Fly is one of my all-time faves....Neil and Jack....what a team. I love to open the doors and windows in Summer and crank up The Emperor Of Wyoming.....City Slickers.Everybody Knows....the real Neil deal.

CC, the first Neil Young CD is sitting on my coffee table as we speak. Listened to Emperor of Wyoming just yesterday. A deceptively simple melody that is just downright magical. Great, great tune.
