There has been much discussion on various forums about the Tonerite musical aging device.
They appear to be discounted a bit (half from the original price of 300 clownbucks correct?). I just ordered one so I'll post a report after it arrives. http://www.tonerite.com/purchase.html mattmoo |

I've never heard of this device. It would be nice if the company could explain exactly where and how it hooks up and exactly how it works.

Papi,
Check out this link posted by rick-slo from a post by Kerry. http://collingsforum.com/eve/f...=106105751#106105751 Phild28, Yes, I'll be very interested in your report and if my impression is the same. I should add, I'm one of those people that has zero doubt about the impact playing has on the tone of good quality instruments. I'm very interested to try this out. Keep Pickin mattmoo |

I purchased a ToneRite a week or so ago and used it for 72 hours on a new custom Adi/Mahogany dread and was more than pleased.
There was a small change at 24 hours, more at 48 and by 72 hours, it sounded like a guitar that had definitely opened up. More volume, richer tone and a general loosening up both in sound and feel. Warren |

Maybe someone should buy one, and then rent it out to folks on a 1-2 week basis. Heck - I'd give it a go for a few bucks.

Hmmm. If these things are the electronic version of varnish magic (your guitar becomes miraculously older, more vibrant, your hairline returns to its high water mark of 30 years ago, you no long mull the possibilities of natural male enhancement.......) then how come a great luthier would have some in their set-up room to give 'em a goose for week or two before shipping. Presto, every guitar is an Alien. but, you know, I'm just gullible enough to give this some thought. Anyone with direct experience of this gee-gaw? Never thought I'd consider buying a vibrator through the male, uh, mail. tom

They seem to be pretty popular with classical violinists and i've heard tell of at least one Luthier that is a convert. Seems like its just a fast track way of playing your instrument in - if you believe in playing in that is - I do.

I wonder: is this the kind of thing an individual guitarist needs- assuming the "opening up" process is a law of diminishing returns, and after a week or two of vibrating ecstasy there is little more to be gained- or is it something a local shop could rent. You cud, uh, could milk the cow, then return it. I am an adherent of the opening up process, although I've never believed flogging a mediocre guitar is going to make it into a great one. But, if you could rent it for a couple weeks- for, say, fifty simoleons- then I'd give it try, no doubt. having to buy the thing on faith, and then keep it after the guitar's opened as far as it's gonna open, seems a little steep. but you've gotten my attention. tom

Tom, You do not have to buy it on faith. ToneRite offers a money back guarantee and, if I remember correctly, they will pay the shipping both ways, so there is no financial risk. I realize that I’m beginning to sound like a shill here, but it ain’t so. I have no connection with ToneRite, etc. Warren |

I have had a Tonerite, guitar model, for about 2 months. It does make a change for the better. Some guitars have more noticable difference. So far I have very pleased. I have order the Mando model. If you look at it's cost up against say a Calton case or some other guitar stuff...tuners,stands,bone or graphite nuts. If it helps you can certainly justify the purchase.phil
