Are gruntled stevedores extra? Considering the way stories about conflict usually end up these days, I think the conclusion here was amicable, after a fashion and after tapdancing through a bit of a verbal minefield. In a world where disgruntled is the default position, be glad to be gruntled on the rare occasions presented you. tom

There are dynamics and behaviors here that should be identified and tagged. Primarily, because the moderator (or keeper) of this forum shouldn’t have to waste his time with such (expletive deleted) as this.

The motivation for my summation is to submit something of value, for the betterment of the forum, because I respect, admire and I'm consequently interested in Collings Guitars. I also respect the good works of the moderator, as well as his level-headed decisions, and his commendable goodwill. And let's not forget the creator of the forum, in the first place.

People seem to gravitation towards drama, and need to stop jumping to conclusions and projecting their own agendas long enough to remember what this forum is here to represent: Collings Guitars. It’s a resource of information about *them*, and should be contributed to as such. It’s not a battleground. Neither is it a podium for people to bather non-sequiturs and putting threads off-topic.

Creating the foundation for some of this misbehavior, admittedly, can be laid at my feet. I should never have told a story of wrongful doing by, some lowly still-to-reveal-himself person from this forum regarding one of my sales. So my guilt is certain, and I beat myself up about it regularly.

But I don’t have the feeling that others here have any sense of their own wrong-doing. Or do they-—by deed—-show respect for the reasons behind this forum’s creation.

Maybe, I’m just p-----off (sorry Elambo). I don’t know. But I should bear witness to this, and hopefully allow others to consider what they’re spending their time doing, and what might be more constructive.

I suggest that anything that has to do with the negotiations of transactions, that are posted on this forum be disallowed. Not just by the moderator, but by everyone who considers themselves regulars and value this forum. And given with what I’ve been through for the past couple of weeks, I think have the right to submit this radical idea. Regardless of whether you like or dislike moderators, moderate the forum in this manner yourselves. I think you’re all smart enough to take that on.

-tonosity,
Well said sir.
I'd like to add that I've only been a spectator to the events both related to this incident and the other ordeals you've endured this past week or so. I am of the opinion that you've handled yourself with both dignity and class, I wouldn't hesitate one moment to buy a guitar or anything else for that matter from you.
You have my sympathies for the headaches of the past couple of weeks, but rest assured that you are held in high esteem by me and probably most of the fine folks in our forum family. We have a pretty good eye for character, we love Collings musical instrument don't we?
Respectfully,

-Mark

Perhaps it's the culture in which we're immersed, in which instant judgments, incessant jabbering by the chattering classes filling the vacuum with noise and unsubstantiated opinions 24/7/365, that make us tend so quickly to decide. Take a day to consider. Try a deep breath. There is a possibility, perhaps a probability, that your supposed adversary is as human as you are, and as fallible. We seem so averse to walking a mile in another man's shoes. We're lucky to get a hundred yards. This story, I think, is an example of that: over-reaction, defensiveness, an over-eagerness by third parties to throw grenades when all that might be necessary is to allow a little time to pass. This is not a nation that values contemplation. We, as musicians, should know that the rest is as important as the notes that precede and the notes that follow. I'm happy tonosity was able to reach the equilibrium he deserved. That long hair from Statford said "all's well that ends well",and amen to that. tom

OK, you've got me stumped. Which one of the Fab Four came from Stratford? An' I thought all of them was from Liverpool.

So far I have yet to hear the age old "the butler did it" rationale. Here's what probably happened:

Some UPS shipper guy at the airport knew there was one fine guitar in that there box, and well, he wanted to play it. He quickly unboxed it, tuned it as best he could, and strummed his favorite chord. In an instant, his wildest musical dreams were then fulfilled. Punch drunk with amazement at the Collings sound, and knowing there was only a short time to recover from his sneaky act, he quickly tried to re-box this Sunburt beauty. In his haste, he failed to remember to drop the tuning. He waved goodbye to a love he'd never see again as the plane climbed to altitude. Alas, little did he know that at altitude, and at regular tuning, the guitar expanded every so slightly and two people's lives would never be the same. The moral - the guitar playing shipper did it! The other moral - don't jump to conclusions.

As a part-timer to this forum, it has been quite interesting the last few weeks. Despite the drama this is a great forum and I still want to buy my first Collings!

collingscowboy, perhaps the linkage is in Sir George Martin, to whom I wish fervently I were related. He was born north of London, not far from Stratford, and was the real fifth Beatle, not Stu Sutcliffe or Pete Best. That Will character wrote some killer lyrics, though. Shakespeare In Love is one of my favorite movies of all time, but then so is A Hard Day's Night.

It's under consideration.

Some forums strictly forbid these kinds of discussions, but I truly figured that we could stay above the pitfalls of these kinds of posts and the anger of which they sometimes wreak, and also attract. I'd still like to think that some good can come from them. My faith in that principle isn't what it was a week ago, but on the other hand look at how this situation turned around... I can't help but think that the forum played a small part, at least by encouraging a resolve. Although ultimately it came down to two people having a level-headed conversation with a positive goal in mind.

I have to say that I'm awfully proud of both of these guys. All's well that ends well.

Funnily, the great Brit Museum whose halls I used to once haunt, have Billy Boy's original signed deed to his house in Stratford almost right next to a case containing the actual hand written lyrics to A Hard Day's Night, Ludwig Van's 9th, and other such trivia.
