My Dad wears baseball hats alot. Keeps his dreads from flopping around. I looked at the Collings caps on their website. They look like the caps with the skimpy cap part and the really extra long brim (bill?), not the traditional baseball cap shape.
Anyone seen one in person?

Got one. Not all that flattering on my big head. I'm sticking with my Cubs hat or my Rockies hat.
Sounds like a fly fishing cap. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Thanks for the confirmation. Going out to Cowboy Poetry, thought a Collings hat would be nice. But I'll just pick him up something more appropriate at the Stock Show.

I bought a Collings cap about 2001, wore the dang thang every day, put it through the washer several times until the edge of the bill became thread-free, and then hung it in my workroom for yard work. Tried to get by with other caps for about a year, then said, "The heck with it," and bought another Collings cap last summer.
Re shape, I'd say they are a cross between a baseball cap, and the skimpy caps you refer to. The bill is about standard ballcap length, but the dome is not as tall as one, while not being quite as shallow as some caps I've seen. I think they look and feel great, and the first one I got lasted longer than any cap I have had. No surprise that something the Collings name is on is of high quality, eh? Cheers!

The cap is here. I must say it is perfectly normal. It must be the perspective in the picture on the Collings site that makes it look wierd. I got snowed out of Cowboy Poetry in Elko, so Dad didn't get it anyway. I might just need to order another one for him.

Can I say that, after reading this thread, that our collective dorkiness as a forum is nowhere better evidenced than the technical discussion of hat components.

This super cute guy has claimed my Collings hat. He can't read, but he knows the logo means "guitar"! Anyway, I have a new one with the blue bill coming in the mail. I think the blue fabric is going to sound great. Though the khaki one sounds pretty good, and it's broken in already.
