First, I am very impressed with the way they do business, and even more impressed by the pick (TPR60). Freeblues, you may have a TAD50 in your future, unless I can find a band mate who likes large triangular picks. One got included in my order by a confusion of factors, and it's just too big for me. I'm not a jazz player, really, but I like a smaller pick, and the stubbier 60 is really as big as I can comfortably go. I'll be back atcha about the TAD50; I'll give it another day or two, but I think the size element just doesn't fit my style. The material, however, sure does. Great tone, very organic feel, super complete tone top to bottom, not too bright (like this player), and, so far, maybe the best yet. I have very limited experience with dead turtles, but as I recall I liked the feel better than the sound. The expense, the ethics, and the upkeep are real turn offs. I think Blue Chip may be another example of American ingenuity, of which we have way too little of late. I want to encourage it, as I have Collings. Win/win, I believe it's called. tom

I concur with the Senator from the great County of Sonoma on his general comments re tone and feel of these picks. I've now had some time on the BlueChip TAD50, and it is the best pick I've found for playing my OM1ACut Varnish. So far, its guitar dependent. I preferred (initial impression) my Red Bear C Medium on the Bourgeois OM-150, but I haven't had sufficient time to really make a decision on that. No doubt though on the OM1ACut Varnish. Just a killer combo.
BTW, Sonoman, if you call Matthew I think you may find that he'd be willing to allow you to exchange for a different model if the TAD50 isn't the right size for you. You might want to try a TD50, which looks from the photos like it would be similar in size to a Fender pick or perhaps a bit smaller. Tom |

Does any one know if this material can be worked with emery boards & polishing boards?

Well, I am going to answer my own questions, I received a call this afternoon from Mathew Goins, at about 4:30,
I want to tell you all this is a first class gentleman which I find to be in keeping with those I have dealt with regarding guitars & bluegrass music, I had e-mailed Matt yesterday, & with a busy schedule he kept getting side tracked with answering my questions, so he called me we were on the phone for the better part of 20 minutes, talking picks, guitars, music, guitar players, well I can't wait for my pick to arrive, I am going to send him my specs after a bit, & if the pick is half as good as the quality of the man it will be $35.00 well spent yes you can work the edges with the same tools you would use for a Red Bear, or T.S. pick, emery boards, polishing boards etc. Matt reads the forum, but expressed a reluctance to promote his product, so if you have questions e-mail him from his web page he will get back to you Fred Fred Etheridge Collings D-1A Bourgeois Vintage D |

Dadthrash's Blue Chip Pick Review:
FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MRT |

Thanks MRT!
You make the wait for mine even harder. Hopefully they will show up before the weekend so I can give them a good workout. |

my impression of Matthew was just as expressed above: a real gentleman, extremely knowledgeable about guitars and their relationship to his product, and modest to a fault. I am very impressed with these picks, and I did not expect to find that much difference in a plectrum that costs ten times the normal freight. The tone is different, and markedly so. You still have to have a great guitar to start with, and you need to know how to play it, but this is a valuable tool for any serious player. tom

Wow! nothing but great reports, maybe we should have got together and made a group purchase?
Well I'm pretty sold on them I'm just waiting for (StephenT28) to report on his 40's so I can decide which one to order |

Hey tom, lemme know if that TAD50 isn't working for you.
I've used my TAD40 now on a couple of gigs and am more impressed than ever. Just the right amount of bright, great punch, love the feel. If Matthew can make 'em look as good as TS he will have it all! |

Picks can in todays mail!
The Bourgeois showed up today also. Guess what I'm gonna be doing nonstop for the next 3 days! |

Un, watching Jerry Springer? Listening to Michael Savage? Dropping a bowling ball repeatedly on your feet? No? Okay, then, playing until your fingers bleed? Got it.
re the TAD50- it's a size issue, not a tone issue. I'll just have to see if I can accustom my hand to the increased dimension. If not, someone's gettin' a free pick. I did, and it's only right to pass it on to someone who cottons to that larger triangle thing. I'll know by next week. Stay tuned, and no clamoring! First come, first served. best tom |
