Quincys Guitars in austin has a great used one in as new condition, but w/ 1 11/16 nut. Eminently playable though, and great sounding. Regards, ML.

I have an SJ with a 1 3/4 neck for sale, but it ain't maple. Pictures at Sonoma Valley Music. Angelic tone, but I had to sacrifice it on the altar of the Alien OM. Brazilian's basically a two for one thing. Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes not. There was a loooooong thread hashing over that very subject. Anyway, had to take a shot. Only maple I have is C10 deluxe, adi top. NFS. Probably.

my maple SJ is 1-11/16". i didn't even notice this when i first played it. it plays so easily... even fingerstyle.

have you played the cedar SJ at the music emporium? it's new, but has the nut width you like. you could also try the burst SJ w/narrow neck while you're there.

Note to all, SJ's with a 1 11/16" feel more like a 1 3/4" on an OM. The neck is chunkier and fits the hand like an bigger nut that it is... but really who's the biggest nut of all? Surely not I?

peter, i have played the cedar at the emporium and the 1 11/16" one that is used. i prefer the 1 3/4". most of my other guitars have 1 7/8 or 1 13/16...........a lot of it has to do with the neck profile also, but the 1 11/16 feels a bit crowded.

I played an SJ at Quincy's in April, if it's the same one as Mark is talking about, it was one of my favorite guitars there. It had an archtop-like sound to it, really great for rhythm swing.

Rainy, I do believe it is the same one at Quincy's. It's a good sounding and playing one, for sure! The 1 11/16 is very playable for a fingerstylist (like me), and I do think it's because of the round and full neck profile.

Not only does this one do great at swing rhythm, but it's bell clear for traditional and modern fingerstyles as well, and is a great strummer too. My guess is that it would flatpick well in any style, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it for Gypsy jazz leads too.
A wonderfully multivalent instrument, the SJ, and Pat has a good'un!

Someone go get it! I have waay too much already..... Smile ML.
