Excellent Condition. All black custom finish, Sitka/Maple, 1-¾ nut width and nickel Waverly tuners. This is a versatile guitar, but exquisite for finger style. The all-black finish makes this a very unique instrument, certainly not every one’s cup of tea. Bill Collings does not normally like to do the all-black finish because it takes a lot of work to get the finish perfect, and they won’t do it unless they can get it perfect I paid a $500 up-charge for the black finish, but was told that Collings will get $1,000 in the future, if they do it at all. There was only one dealer in the country that was able to get Bill to build an all-black guitar for me and I’m told that there are only 3 other all-black Collings out there, Tom Russell’s OM, Darden Smith’s D-1 and Steve James’s C-10. It has a tiger stripe pick-guard (not in photo’s), I also have a black pick-guard that Collings made for me. I will include this as well, so there is a choice of pick-guards. The guitar has a black strap pin and a Pick-Up-the-World combination pick-up system (no batteries in the guitar) all installed by master guitar tech Bob Jones. The same guitar new would cost over $5,000. (not including pick-up system) I’m asking $3,800 plus shipping. Feel free to call or email with inquires. 201.452.5073 Thanks Dave. dave@murphyworld.com
I have photo's, but I can't figure out how to post. I will work on that and get them up asap.
why are you selling? I seem to remember reading somewhere that you wanted a black stage guitar and then you must have bought this since then. And now selling? It just doesn't make sense.

No Kenny B. it doesn’t make sense, but who said it had to make sense? The guitar is just no longer my cup of tea. It may not be your cup of tea either, BUT if someone digs the sound of a sitka/maple SJ and really likes a black finish, they’ll be getting a great sounding and unique instrument at a very very good price. It really does sound incredible especially for finger picking. I do much more strumming than I do finger picking. To my ears it’s definitely a stronger finger style guitar than it is a strummer.
I just figured I’d offer it up to the forum members before I send it back to Jim Baggett at Mass Street Music so he can sell it (for me) on consignment. You can count on that Jim will ask (and eventually get) a good amount more dollars than what I’m asking.
Some of my friends bust my chops and say I’m a member of the guitar of the month club. Thankfully it’s not quite that extreme, but yes I’m an acoustic guitar junky. Okay, I just outed myself. I’ve owned a lot of guitars and several Collings’s over the years, some that I wish I held on to. Currently I own the SJ and a 1964 Gibson J-50 that has a new non-adjustable bridge. It’s funny because both the SJ and the J-50 are worth more than any other material thing in my apartment. Yes, I’m selling it, but whoever buys it will be getting a special guitar. Hey, it’s my party and I’ll do what I want to. Cheers. Dave
