For sale is my 2000 Borges Barndance.
Firstly, the ONLY reason I'm letting this go, is due to a Brazilian vintage Martin purchase. A deal had to be struck with the powers that be at home. I'm sure you all know the drill. The guitar is one of a kind. Julius Borges builds guitars of exceptional quality, and he didn't build too many of these. The Barndance is based on the 1930's Gibson J-35. http://www.borgesguitars.com/model_barndance.html (my guitar, is the one pictured. The description is misleading in regards to the mahogany back and sides) This one has the rosewood back and sides, so it's technically more along the lines of an AJ. The tone of the guitar is wonderful - big and wide open. It sounds and feels like an old guitar. It sounds great flatpicked or with bare fingers. The specs are: Select East Indian Rosewood back and sides. Honduran Mahogany neck Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Select Adirondack Spruce top. Grained Ivoroid Binding. Wood strip and bias cut Ivoroid Rosette Ebony Headstock Veneer Borges Logo inlaid with Mother of Pearl Waverly Vintage style tuners with Ivoroid Buttons. Compensated Saddle. High Gloss Nitrocellulose laquer finish over shelac base coats.(the top is treated with a wash of egg whites prior to finishing). Vintage firestripe pickguard. Nut width 1 3/4 Scale Length 24.75 Original Vintage Style Case Condtion is Excellent, with just light playwear. There was an undersaddle pickup installed. I got a Bob Colosi custom oversized bone(with black dot) endpin to replace the jack. Price is 4750.00 shipped. If you would like to use Paypal I would appreciate splitting the fee. If not, a direct transfer of funds would be preferable. I'm located in Vancouver, Canada. My email is tmtayl@yahoo.com. I would be happy to provide references. This message has been edited. Cool guitar! What is the width of the neck at the 12th fret and the string spacing at the saddle? Thanks

It's 1 7/8 at the 12th fret, and 2 3/8 at the saddle. Thanks Tom |

Toms a good guy. He knows what "great sounding guitar" means. Buy with confidence.

You're killin' me here, Smalls. At least it's not mahogany. Paper cut, meet lemon juice. Mercy. tom

I've heard great things about the Barndance. Any thoughts out there on how it compares to a Collings CJ? I own a CJMhA-
Thanks- |

The Barndance doesn't sound a lot like a CJ, although I've only spent time with a Sitka/Rosewood CJ in a store, but from memory, I think they are different. The CJ has a more focused modern sound than the Borges.
The Barndance has an old guitar vibe. It's quite loud, but very open sounding. It doesn't have the classic rosewood overtones, it has some of the mahogany fundamental. It truly is it's own guitar. Build wise, it's on par or above with any guitar maker out there. Hope that rambling made sense. |
