My D1A varnish is now for sale, at Artisan Guitars, near Nashville. See www.artisanguitars.com

Description:

-- D1AV
-- Serial no. 12377
-- Varnish finish
-- 1-3/4 "vintage now" neck
-- "cut-through" saddle
-- no popsicle brace
-- ebony peghead overlay
-- all original, with original Collings case
-- purchased new June 2007
-- near mint, with the slightest of noticeable play wear.
-- $4950

Just to be clear -- and the Artisan web posting will be clarified -- this guitar has a "vintage now" neck, not the thicker "vintage" neck; and $6750 would be the current, 2008, Collings list price.

This guitar is noticeably lighter in weight than other Collings Ds I've played. Very responsive, open sound.

I had a chance to play this guitar with Alex a few weeks ago and can attest that it is extremely light weight and sounds incredible. It is also in superb condition. The varnish has had time to cure perfectly and there were no scratches, dings etc., that I could see. This is a tremendous guitar for someone in the market for a D1A Varnish without paying the new guitar price.

If I were in the market for a D1A Varnish, I would be all over this.

Does the vintage now still have a mild "v" feel to it and that's it just a little thinner standard profile, or does it feel more rounded off?

Until recently I had two dreads, one with vintage now and one with standard neck. Honestly, it was hard to tell them apart. Feel is very similar to me. Definitely not a regular vintage girth I have also owned in the past. Just my opinion.

JW,

Go up to the first post in this thread and click on the link there. Artisan Guitars still lists it as available on its website.

Still available at Artisan. I'll also be posting a Santa Cruz Tony Rice Professional separately, again at Artisan.

I have played both of these guitars at Artisan. Both were really nice but I liked the collings the best. Just an opinion.
