Thought I'd create a new post to help everyone see late developments. As of Oct. 25, 9:20 pm, some events are still tentative, and we'll play some scheduling by ear; we're getting more things to do.

Some other thoughts - let's be sure to share cell phone numbers at the Salt Lick, to ensure no one gets lost or left behind.

I'll post links to maps, and I will bring print copies with me to the events.

Bring cash for the Salt Lick - it's cash only, and I don't know if Victor M will pawn a guitar to pay for lunch again. Salt Lick doesn't sell beer, but you can bring your own. I'm sure some of the local fellas will have coolers. Bring guitars to Salt Lick - we'll have time and space to ooh and aah before we go to the factory.

Nov 10, 2006
noonish - lunch at Salt Lick CASH ONLY RESTAURANT!!!
3:30 (tentative) - factory tour, possibly live music
7:00 - Quincy's in South Austin for Jam, hosted by Pat Skrovan of Quincy's (plus window shopping)

Nov. 11
Hill Country Guitars - more window shopping, live music
Joe McColley of the forum has offerred to host a flatpicking workshop; we'll find a place at the Wimberly Inn and work it around HCG's event. He promises you'll walk out with some cool licks.

Song circle and jam at the Wimberly Inn Saturday night, or go see what Austin or the Hill Country has to offer

Nov. 12
we'll see...

Sadly (for me), I won't be there. Try to check out the Continental Club and the Broken Spoke. Two really fantastic venues! Also, not that you'll have time, but the Texas State History Museum is really great. Dan

I wanted to outline my flatpicking workshop for those of attending. It will be a practical licks based workshop designed to quickly add to your licks library. I will be showing you some of my best licks including signature licks by Tony, Clarence and well as licks I have learned over the years from great players I have met including folks like Jeff White, Adam Wright, Clay Hess and others. I hope to spend about 5 minutes on each new passage and cover about 10 licks. Each will be played up to speed then very slowly several times. Then I will explain it in detail and give several examples of how each lick can be used in several different songs. Unless you are a guitar God, you will not really learn to play these at the workshop. I recommend you bring a video recorder so that you can take the recording home with you. You should be able to master a lick or two a week and apply these to your playing quickly. Intermmediate players should be able to master this material and advanced players will have no problem. I will be including intro licks, finishing licks, some really cool floaties, bluesy stuff, and licks to get you from one end of the fingerboard to the other. Please let me know if this format is of interest to those attending. Look forward to meeting all of you! Joe

Joe, that sounds perfect. I am still trying to keep my Friday-Saturday clear so I can attend.

And I want to hear that D1AV-varnish.

Joe, that really does sound great - exactly the kind of fills, transitions, intros and stuff that I'm trying hard to learn!

We're confirmed to have a room at the Inn, and if the weather's good, some nice places outdoors.

Now I'll have to be sure the batteries on the cam-corder are charged as well as extra batteries for the digital camera.

I really wish I was going this year. My new job is keeping me from being able to attend. It would be great to see old (not in age) friends, meet new ones, see the occupied new Collings site, learn new techniques from the workshops, and jam with everyone. That's a long list of things I'll miss. I'm sure it will be a great time for all who attend. I'll be there in spirit.

Thanks, Joe...I'm looking forward to the gathering. I'm arriving Wed. evening, then going to Houston to record an album at Sugar Hill on Thursday...I'm pretty stoked on that. Then in downtown Austin Thurs and Fri night and at the Wimb. Inn on Sat and Sun night...back on the plane on Monday morning...

It sounds like a good time...I'm looking forward to seeing folks and playing music.

Probably against better judgement, I'm bringing my new braz sunburst varnish dread and my varnish mando.....I'm sure they'll travel well in their caltons....I'm anxious to share them with y'all...

Dale
