Tommy Emmanuel will be in town in February. He's performing in concert at a church (smallish to mid-size, good acoustics), and he's doing a long workshop ( 3 or 4 hours) at a small local store.

I can do one or the other (time and money constraints). If you had to chose, what would your preference be?

No contest. Do the Concert, if you have never seen him live you are
in for a revelation. I saw him recently at a small venue in Atlanta and they gave
two shows in one night and I went to the second show worried he might be used up,
but alas, I'd hate to see him when he is fresh if that was his tired show. LOL

NO kidding skip the workshop unless you are already one heck of a player but to to
the concert and take your heart med's if you use them. It is like nothing you have
or will likely ever see. Especially if the sound man has his stuff together. Church
venues are iffy sometimes but believe me this guy is over the top.

I guess I would agree, the concert would be more fun. I have done both Tommy Concerts and a 3-4 hour workshop. I enjoyed both.

Certainly go with the Concert David! The one I attened was no doubt the best Guitar Concert I ever attended! It's truely another level of enjoyment when compared with many other top Acoustic fingerstylists!

Get the instructional Video as it covers most of the stuffs from his workshops!

Concert hands down. I have seen him in both settings. Concert is your best bang! Enjoy. Tommy is awesome!

David, you forgot to report back how the concert is!??

My wife's (who enjoys music but does not make it) comment kind of said it all - "You wouldn't want to buy his CD because if you didn't see him live, you would never believe he was making all that music at one time."

I'd like to go to one of his workshops, but I'll never miss another concert opportunity. It's hard to imagine him teaching anything I'd be capable of doing, but if he's half the teacher he is player...

Venue was a small church, good acoustics, full of guitar and Tommy nuts. Sat about 10 rows back, a little to the left, where I figured I'd be able to watch his hands. After a while, I quit watching and just let the music take me away.

Great report, David. I did the exact same thing. Had to or I would have gone crazy and destroyed all my guitars.

But I have to respectfully disagree with your wife - I bought ALL his CDs
