I used to talk up Elixirs to the point that you'd think I was getting a commission. At the last NAMM I bought a set of John Pearse (based on consistent recommendations on this Forum) AND the wipes JP sells to use before and after playing. I don't know how much the wipes contribute to longevity, but I'm getting as long from a set of JPs as I did from Elixirs. No string brand has ever allowed me to use the same set for two gigs so my only concern is how they sound at practice or jamming between gigs. I doubt if I'll use Elixirs again as I was sacrificing that initial treble zing for longevity. My experience now tells me there is not enough benefit to using "Gore-Tex" strings, as Bill calls them. So, after years of using Elixirs, I'm now saving money and using "regular" strings. Have John Pearse users found that they last longer than other uncoated brands?
