Go early and catch The THE JERRY DOUGLAS BAND at 3:35 before Alison Krause Big fan of HOT RIZE - 3:25 Saturday Tim O'Brien, Bryan Sutton, Nick Forster, & Pete Wernick. I'd travel to The City just for them. The event has talent from top to bottom. I'd certainly add those two. Alan This message has been edited. Last edited by: vagdad, |

Hot damn Alan, Bryan Sutton's playing?!

Tom, viewing that list it'd be easier to list who's NOT playing. John Jorgensen. Steve Earle. Elvis Costello. Dave Alvin. Desert Rose. Earl Scruggs. Appears that any stage, any hour, and you're gonna see something amazing. And it's freakin' free, if you can get near it with the insane traffic. And here we had to sell the family helicopter. Jerry Douglas: what can you say. The best there ever was. Hot Rize: hot damn! Whatta show.

Tom, and to think we have a banjo player to thank for this free 3 day shindig?! Have mercy.

Dang. I'll have to unlearn a lot of unflattering banjo player jokes (involving, to varying degrees, inbreeding, drooling, and poor dental hygiene). tom

It should be a great time, Kia Manuia, Dale www.daleinskeep.com |

bg,
The biggest problem I see is figuring out how to divide your time and still have a break or two to catch your breath. All suggestions here are good. Unmentioned so far are two of the greatest songwriters in the history of the planet: Greg Brown and Richard Thompson, both brilliant performers as well as authors. And while I'm not much of a fan of his, Ralph Stanley is a direct connection to the first generation of bluegrass music, and might be worth seeing from an historical perspective. I saw Laurie Lewis for the first time at Merlefest this year, and she's got a great band and a very appealing show. And as far as bluegrass goes, well, I'm glad to see that you've got Del on your list, because I think you could make a very solid argument that this is the very best band in the history of bluegrass: absolutely bleeding amazing! Try to have a little fun, now Cheers! B This message has been edited. Last edited by: B Woods, |

It's the bluegrass/roots music version of Monterey Pop, only it's not 1967 and I'm not 20. Now, that was a weekend...... and I was actually there for part of it. But this show in GG Park is a stunner. Iris Dement. Jerry Jeff Walker. Jimmy Dale Gilmore. other artists with two or three names. Maybe I ought get outa my rut and make it over for a day on the fabled lawns of that park just for old time's sake. tom

Daily...
Right on with your picks. If you're into "singer-songwriter", Darryl Scott is about as good as it gets. Mighty fine guitar player too. Alan |

Odetta, for cryin' out loud. A folk legend for better than fifty years. Back in the day, she could make Tina Turner sound like Olivia Fig Newton John. Listen to "I've Been Driving on Bald Mountain" sometime, if it's still in print. Mercy. tom
