I'll be there. Bill was a blast at his last visit to the Emporium. I only hope there isn't a snowstorm to drive home thru like last time!

What's the protocol? Do people bring their own instruments to show to Bill? I'd like to ask him about my OM2h and my MT-1, but I don't want to be the only one to walk in with my instrument cases. Dan

Any news from attendees? Heard that Collings brought along a new prototype. Pray tell!

A great time; Bill and Alex were fun and informative. I learned a lot about Bill's thought process as he went from concept to delivery on his electrics. The guy knows the specific density of the wood he uses for his guitars! The prototype was a City Lights jazz model. Thin body, a single floating Kent Armstrong pickup, incredibly lightweight, beautiful jazz sound. I brought my MT-1 mandolin to show Bill. I wanted to know if the top was Englemann or Adirondack. He told me that it was Englemann, and said that at that time (1999-2000) he had a hundred "nice, tight pieces of Englemann." The electrics sounded great: all different, even the same models sounded distinct from one another. Although I didn't try one, a Boston-area guitar pro (Jim Kelly? I think) demonstrated them. They were all winners. I have to run now. I'll add more later as I have time and think about it. I am sure glad that I went. Thank you, Bill Collings, Alex, and the great folks at the Guitar Emporium. Buy something there! Dan

Great update. What a treat to meet and talk with Bill and Alex (especially about your own instruments) and hear how the mind of luthier-Bill ticks. I'm sure that new CL rocks. What'll Bill think up next? What a talent. I must check out one of these events someday.

A funny moment at the event: I was showing Bill my OM2h to ask a question and he fixed me with a steely gaze and asked, "Are these strings Goretex?" I mumbled yeah, and he suggested (which may be too mild a word) that I get them off the guitar. So, now you know how he feels about Elixers! Dan

Just curious...

He puts Dads on his instruments, so I guess that's what he recommends. To me, the message was, don't use coated strings. But I still think that sometimes they are useful. Dan

Yeah, I just put on some NanoPeebs(Nanoweb Phosphor Bronzes) and like them just fine.
