not sure if this is the best place for this. but last year i attended a guitar show at the montreal jazz festival that was pretty cool. the show featured hundreds of the worlds best custom luthiers and was a great opportunity to talk to builders and try / buy instruments. anyway, they're doing it again in summer 2007. if you want info you can check out http://montrealguitarshow.com/accueil_en.aspx the montreal jazz festival is the biggest in the world. so it was fun to listen to great artists, attend workshops, and play some beautiful instruments.
I do agree with you. This guitar show was great! I was there last year and do plan to go back. It is a unique show since they do have the top builders like Monteleone, Somogyi or Beauregard, but you also have the up and coming ones. And what makes this show so unique is that it is held during the Montreal Jazz Fest www.montrealjazzfest.com that presents hundreds of free shows... And I must say that Montreal during the jazz fest is the greatest city! I will go back in 2007... I have been saving for this all year... I do plan to bring back guitar from one of the luthiers.
from what i can see from the website, the montreal guitar show has attracted a great number of luthiers. the beauty of this show is that it strikes a very good balance between guitar enthusiasts and luthiers. so you really have an opportunity to talk shop and try out instruments. i'm sure it will be a fantastic event. see you there july 6-8!
