Hi, everyone.

I have just recently discovered this forum, and also just acquired a new MT. I played one of the first Collings A models a few years back, and have been saving for an MT2 ever since. The basic MT really surprised me and finally won me over.

I am wondering what other MT owners have observed about these mandos "opening up". The tone of mine is very nice for a brand new instrument, but I'm anxious to see what happens when that wood figures out that it is a mandolin.

Anyone have some insights to share about this?

I am no master, but I have owned a few different mandolins and played many more. My MT is a little over a year old. It may just be my technique, but I swear that over the last few months the sound has been getting richer. Not sure if a year of moderate play is enough time to start "opening up" an instrument, but lets just say it sounds darn good to me.

MTs have Engelmann spruce tops. What I've gathered is that these open up more quickly, and sound better right out of the box, than mandos topped with Adirondac.
I also own an MT and it sounded wonderful from the very first day. As always, your milage may vary.

my MT is now 3 years old. it opened-up after a month or two, and i'd swear it just gets better and better. just keep playin' it!

my MT-2V is 6 months old, and there's been no major change in the sound yet, but i can't wait!
