has anyone tried installing an arm-rest on their mandolin recently? i'm worried about stripping the finish, but also worried about clamping ANYTHING to the mandolin body. thanks.

I use Cumberland arm rests. I've had one on all my (3) Collings mandolins, for a total of 4 years, with no reaction to the cork. I put a folded business card behind the barrels to keep the finish from being scratched. I like the arm rest for keeping my finish-killing perspiration off the instrument, and to soften the rather sharp top edge. ymmv.

I've got a Dudenbostel arm rest on my MT2V. LOVE it. It works great and doesn't mar the finish. In fact, I think it protects the finish from my sweaty arm.
