Hello to the Collings family.....Yes I am new member but not new to the forum....While I am a huge collings fan and own both a D1 and D2H....I finally decided to join after seeing an MF5 on ebay today.....Currently its going for $15,000.00.....I needed to ask the experts..on this forum..is this for real???? or am I seeing things......
It is strange....most likley something isn't right.....but there is a lot of activity...Last I checked there were 15 bids with the 3rd or 4th hitting $5,000.....There was even a retraction at $10,700.....I second the Jimi Hendrix theory...or maybe Bill Monroe (I am sure he would have played a Collings given the the chance).....Rich
This mandolin is a scam and the guys on Mandolin Cafe spotted it and now they are scamming the ebayer who posted it.
The pictures and description came from Mass Street Musics web-site. A new MF5 lists for $8000 but usually sold for $7200. They are killer mandolins, I own # 77.
I love reverse-scamming these guys at their own game. Asking for a picture of the serial number usually gets them nervous and results in a retraction. Also, I don't hesitate to email bidders to give them a heads-up on the possibility of a scam. Good work guys!
