I am new to this forum, but have been active in the Mandolin Cafe for a long time. I look forward to learning a lot. I recently got a Collings MF5 to go with my MF. I have had fun comparing the two. Both play like butter. The MF has a bit more raw power and is simply great cutting through a big jam. While just as loud the MF5 is more refined and clear in tone, and records really well. I love them both, but would probably keep the MF5 if I could only keep one.

tony: welcome to the forum. i've owned an MT and MT-2V at the same time, and completely agree with the tonal differences you see between MF and MF-5. the MT was louder and a little rough around the edges; the MT-2V is clearer and capable of sweeter sounds. it's getting louder as i break it in. i regret selling the MT. it has its place!
