Hello All,
Long time MF player. Frist time poster here! A few weekends ago I had just finished playing a privite basement party with some of favorite pickers and long time friends. Needless to say the after show picking circle lasted well into the wee hours of the morn and the sprits flowed freely throughout! I woke in the morning to find A crack in my much loved # 570 no-fills MF that I use for field picking and basement gigs. The crack extends up from the bottom of the right F-hole along the grain on the bat wing for about two inches. Anyone have any thoughts on sabilizing cracks on these soooooo!thin tops that have given us the volume we have come to love so much from these mando's

Jeffa

Too much veeno can lead to cracks in the top!

Wow, sorry to hear that. If it is a Collings, why not call Collings and ask them to recommend someone in your area.
Welcome to the forum and by the way we have a Jefe among our group who is also a Mando player

Thanks for the reply! Yes thats my next step!I have a good idea who they would send me to. Good dealer but not impressed with their repair group. I thought I would try here first. Do you ever get folks from Collings posting in here?
Thanks for the welcome Papi.

If you post your location maybe someone from the same area can suggest a different repair shop.

try jack o'brien. he accepts work through acoustic outfitters- i believe he is in jeffers. i think acoustic outfitters was also using bill tippen down in marblehead too. there is also pete langell in vermont (formerly of rigel mandolins).

i live in the same area, but bring my work down to southeastern connecticut.

you can also contact the music emporium in lexington, mass.

you could also contact collings and ask if they will do the repair themselves. a lot of folks in the area were without heat the first few weeks of december. they were all heating with wood, which makes things very dry. make sure you get that properly humidified until you find a repairman.

there are a few more folks in and around the area, but i've no experience with anyone here. right now most of the really good luthiers are busier than ever.
