I'll do my best on that Kenny, after I have had it a little bit that is. Need to get it set up to my liking and get some time with it. I've got my MF to compare it to, but I would think (didn't just read any specs) that they both have the same top on them?/

I have wanted an Oval for a while now, and when I saw Collings was finally making one that just did me in. Mary put that last nail in my coffin.

Not me on that one. I got enough "stuff" around here already.

Now if I could just learn to actually play a Mando it would be really nice.

Mary, the best oval I've played was a large bodied Sobell mandolin at Dream Guitars. How does the Collings measure up if you know.

I think those Sobell's are like an entirely different animal... yet if you actually played one of those babies, you might give us a heads up on how it sounded compared to what you're use to hearing in a mandolin.

i've owned several sobells. way too much overtones for my taste and they all seem to get those stress cracks where the neck meets the body.

the collings embodies the opposite of everything i dislike in the older gibsons. the necks are more comfortable. the scale is not skimpy, too short and stubby. the fretwork is spot on. the overtones are controlled. the sound and tone are even, and the fit and finish is excellent.

i cannot for the life of me find anything wrong with them. i've played two so far and they are very very consistent.

I played that Sobel at Dream too, but it was back in Jan so I doubt I would be able to really remember what it was like in person.

I remember the neck being wide though, and it had a pretty deep tone to it. It was good enough that I thought about buying it, but didn't think (at the time) it was worth quite what they were asking for it.

A new olympic record...

The mandolin cafe "used classifieds" has an MT2O listed.
