I have a little more info. the folks at Madison Music tell me Collings will initially make only an MT2 oval. There are no immediate plans for an MT but it may be in the future.

Just an update here. I have been told that the Ovals at NAMM were prototypes and the production models are not even geared up yet.

Might still be a while before the masses can buy one.

Mary, the description at Acoustic Music Works sure makes it sound like they got a proto as well. a lot os "will be" and "will cost" in their description.

And my source is a dealer not 25 miles from Bill and the boys who goes there in person. he was told the protos were done by Bill and they didn't even have the jigging set up yet for the production model.

Interesting.

rick, i spoke with steve miklas at acoustic music works yesterday and he told me that Collings will take an order for an oval hole mandolin- there were 4 prototypes by the way. all have gone to dealers for sale- but cannot promise a delivery date.

That's what I was told also Mary. And that part about "don;t know when it might get done" just leaves me a bit scared.

So, I'll wait and let those that know and go there tell me when it's time to order.

well, rick

there are 4 out there now. and you can place an order. i remember when they first started making mandolins. they were harder than hen's teeth to find. that said, now they are plentiful.

the blonde mandolins are going to be even harder to find as steve tells me that bill likes the amber color (it is very nice), and it is much easier to complete mandos in this shading rather than the "all showing", every little mark, blonde.......so if you order a blonde mando nowadays from them it's going to be the same thing- no commitment on a delivery date........i waited quite a while and ended up buying an Mt2 in blonde while waiting for my MT.....so, i guess i am okay with waiting...but might buy one already out there while i'm at it.........

I can wait Mary. Being recently retarded, I mean retired, I have all the time I can handle these days. NO money, but plenty of time.

I need to thin out the music room anyway, got too much in here now and don't really need it all. So I can work on that while they get geared up for the Ovals. And I have my MF to play so it's not like I am lacking anything.
