Does anyone know if the process for buffing a martin guitar's satin finish will work also for a Collings MT? The process uses Meguiar's Scratch-X and Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish Step 2, and basically a lot of "elbow grease".
My MT has a shiny area above and behind the bridge where my arm usually comes across the top, along with the usual pinky shine spot and of course the back of the neck. I'm thinking she will look better if I just go ahead and buff out the whole thing. Would love to hear from anyone who has tried this process or something else to polish up their MT (or MF). Rich |

I've also wondered about this. My MF has a few shinny spots. Most noticeably on the top below the strings. I guess it adds character.

Why not try rubbing it with just a soft cloth first? The back of my MT-1 is nice and shiny with no compound used. On the other hand, those shiny spots mean that you're playing it. I certainly admire perfect-looking instruments, but when I pick up a good older instrument with some wear on it, I tend to smile and wonder what gigs it has played, what music was made on it, etc. When I pass my mandolins and guitars on to my grandchildren, I hope that they look at those marks and think about me and the music I made.

I did both my MT and my MF that I traded for with the polish from a Fender guitar care kit.
I am told it's actually made by Maguires. Only takes a couple go rounds to get a nice shine to the satin finish. Easy and looks great. DS 3 Braz 000 1 G MF Mando MT 2 O |

I know this might be late, but check out the Acoustic Guitar Forum...They have a ton of posts on that buffing out process...It works well...I've done it on one of my guitars way back...
