If a mandolin has the standard nut or the wide nut, are the different nuts used on identical necks?

I'm not 100% sure I understand your question, but I think I know what you are asking.

The neck on the mando will be shaped and size to whatever nut width it was desinged for.

A "wide" nut mando will not have the same neck as the "standard" width. The neck width will match the nut width.

Is that what you were after, or something else?

Yes, that's what I was trying to get at. I had a feeling that the neck would also be slightly wider for the wider nut.

Thanks.

Beal, Rick is right on, in fact Collings sent me a nut for a 1-1/8 neck instead of my 1-3/16, and yes the nut was too short.

FWIW: When I ordered the mando, I also had the V in the 1-3/16 neck rounded a bit. It works great.
