The tailpiece (chrome/nickel?) on my wife's MT is a bit tarnished, possibly from using the wrong type of polish on it. Can anyone recommend a remedy for this, like a good polish or such???

I bought a used collings with chrome/nickel tailpiece that had tarnished. And used cape cod metal polishing clothes according to directions and be sure not to apply any to your wood parts. I used sparingly twice and significant improvement. This stuff smells so use in a well ventilated area and give your instrument some air so that your case does not pick up the smell.

They make a chrome polish that is available at most Auto Zone's and Advanced Auto stores. It's in a little round contatiner with a blue top. I use on on my wheels, boat propeller, our sterling sliver, my daughter's flute, and anything else that needs a polish (including brass). Definitely don't get it on the wood.

I use Connoisseurs Jewelry Wipes (for gold and silver). My wife gave me these. After using a wipe I put it in a ziplock bag in my mandolin case for reusing. Does a great job on the tailpiece.
