i have a steven andersen oval hole mandola (#405) that i'd like to sell. i'd rather have some dealer sell it for me, and pay the commission, than go through all the hassles of selling it myself. can anyone recommend a dealer in the U.S. which normally carries instruments like this? thanks.

marymary: i've seen too many good instruments like this (oval hole mandolins, mandolas, octave mandolins) sit at the pickin parlor over a year and never sell. i think the market might be better in an area with a more active celtic or folk music scene. e.g. boston?

He posts on the Flatpick-L server and can play most anything with strings. He has to be a good guy since he plays a Collings OM2 and an MT2 varnish. The last time I talked to him, it was about a Bailey mandolin strap. Good guy.

well, if you are looking for a Boston area store then call Joe at the Music Emporium. or try steve miklas over at Acoustic Music Works. the pittsburgh mandolin orchestra is there and so is charlie rappaport.

My ears are burning

I've bought and/or sold instruments through The Music Emporium, Gryphon, Mandolin Bros, Elderly, etc. All good dealers to work with. I'd also suggest Cotten Music, they carry high end mandolins and have good web visibility. I've also had good experiences buying and selling mandolins on the mandolincafe classifieds.

There is quite a gathering of mandola family players in Pittsburgh...they have a Mandolin Orchestra. Steve Miklas at Acoustic Music Works buys and sells a considerable number of these. I would certainly try him. www.acousticmusicworks.com
