I have dropped the action of my MT2, maybe too far. I've been told that the factory set-up is typically 3mm spacing from the bottom of the E strings to the 12th fret, and 5mm from the bottom of the G strings to the 12th fret. Mine measures 2mm/3mm. I notice a little buzz on the open E, but not sure how far I should go back up to correct it. Have I lost some tone or volume too? Any opinions on optimal set-up measurements? I know it is a personal preference, but I'm willing to work a little harder to get a good tone. Maybe I should go back to the factory specs.

I'm also wondering about damping the strings between the bridge and the end piece. Is that necessary on my mando? I've tried lacing a piece of leather strap between the strings but it moves around an annoys me while I'm playing. Not sure I could really hear any difference either. I've seen some mandos w/ little rubber gromets between the strings. Anybody using those or have other comments about damping the strings?

Thanks!
Rich

I'll bet it will sound better with the action raised. Also, I think if you can't hear a difference damping the strings behind the bridge, why bother doing it?
