Anyone have Collings replace their MT2 tuning machines with waverlys? Just wondering what you opinion is about the difference. Is it worth the extra $? How did the replacement work out? (I understand there is a different shape to the plate, and some finish touch-up is required).

Love Wavs...I put them on almost all of my mandolins or have them put on upon commissioning...I had my luthier put a set on my MT2 when I had one...Loved the tuners, but it didn't help the resale at all...Actually, I should have taken them off and then put the original tuners back on...I was even thinking about putting them on my MT, but possibly not worth the cost for the mandolin...Put them on because you want them, but don't expect to get more money upon flipping or selling...They are the best tuners around IMHO...

I replaced the original tuners on my Weber yellowstone varnish with Waverly's. I loved them. Eventually I took them off and sold the Weber. That same set is on my Heiden. I love the tuners. They stay in tune & they're classy. After a few years the tuning is still tight and I like the tarnished look. They are my tuner of choice.
I have Waverly tuners on my MF5 varnish, and I had Gotoh's on my Dudenbostel. Both are comparable, but I find the Waves to be a little smoother, with a little less wiggle. Would I change out a set of tuners on a mandolin I owned in favor of Waverlies? Probably not, but if I ever commissioned a mandolin I'd definitely spec them on the instrument. They are not cheap, but I feel as the others above they are the best. If I did put them on an existing mando, I would be sure to take them off before selling.

Another vote for the Waverly's. They cost $500. So, you better like them! Every other tuner seems cheap after using them. A bit of loc-tite on each screw/knob cured mine from loosening, in case anyone else notices those little screws creeping their way out.
Waverly did just come out with a new model which is cheaper and a bit lighter too. Haven't actually tried them though. The Bill James tailpiece is another nice addition. More weight in the tuners and tailpiece will improve the sound/sustain/volume. Then you'll want a new bridge...
