How interested would you be in a Collings Mandola? I know I would be. Especially in an oval-hole mandola.

Yes, I'd go for an F style.

By 'interested', you of course mean ' also able to purchase' right? There is hardly an instrument that Collings makes that I would not be 'interested' in. All that being said though, I Would LOVE a Collings 'F' mandola. I don't see it happening in my lifetime though, unless Bill starts making them AND I win a lottery. I don't think that there is much chance of it happening. I'm pretty sure that Bill does quite a bit of market research before he would even start doing prototypes, and this market would'nt be there. Sure would be nice though MF!...

Your dream might just come true. Prototype was in my hands Thursday. I'm all over it when they feel it's ready for public consumption. Hoping they'll do an oval-hole, which I believe they will. Can't wait. God, I'm gonna be broke soon.

That's very cool news. Hopefully that means an octave isn't too far down the line???

One I held was destined to be an F, but they are thinking about both hole versions. The thing I really liked about this one was that it's a real mandola, just a bit bigger than a standard mando, but not those huge, big long things that say they're mandos. It's a mando on a bit of steroids, I would say. No sound, wasn't finished, but it felt great. Lotta room on that fingerboard. And I made very sure that this was no secret, that it was ok to spread the news. It was really sweet. Felt very comfortable. Like the mando's slightly bigger brother.

ONE PLEASE. I'm thrilled to hear you say it isn't too long. I'm fantasizing about an oval hole without a scroll or point and a Gibson-esque scale length, but I'm open minded.

It'd be nice if I didn't have to crash my car for the insurance and sell my neighbor's flat screen TV on Craig's List, but a mandola player's got to do what a mandola player's got to do.

I would have figured that Collings would sell about two mandolas for every 15 mandolins. (?) What do the rest of you think? I wonder how they figure that they can make this profitable?

An A-style with a round-hole in varnish would be something I would be seriously interseted in. Chuck

1 mandola for every 15 mandolins. as a former mandola owner(A-style, oval hole), i am really surprised at this news. a baritone uke can't be far behind...
