Is the neck profile on the TOB the same as a "stock" neck on a Collings mandolin?
Thanks.

Beautiful photos....as someone said about a similar topic (mandolins or women?) "with all those curves, it's got to cost money."

The TOB neck profile is close to my 2002 MT2, not a sharp V like the earlier Collings mandolins.

Hi all!
Is anyone out there waiting for one of these O'Brien models or know any info about how many more are being made? I have a deposit with a dealer for "right of refusal", and am curious if there is any info. Thanks, David

I was told by a dealer that 50 will be built. Don't know if the dealer was speaking from knowledge or speculation. Someone at Collings should know.

I think they are going to make some with varnish finish. 50 is what I think they are making total, but not sure.I suggest contacting Mike (Nugget) Kemnitzer if you want one, he gets half of them to sell. He can be reached at 231 544 5155 Tommy

While at the gathering a couple of weeks ago, I spoke to both Bill Collings and the guys in the mando shop about the arrangement with Mike. They induicated that Mike Kemnitzer is getting about 8-10 mandos a year. They apparently supply the bodies and necks, he does the tops, finish, and set-up, I believe. They did not seem to know much about the O'Brien model, but call them all Nuggets. It would appear that Mike outsources some of his production to Collings so that he can do what he does best. Sorry I can't shed much light on the O'Brien model, especially since Tim was at the Gathering on Saturday and played for us. He'd brought his DS-2H, but borrowed a mandolin from one of the attendees.

On the Tim O'Brien models, Mike carves the top and back from his wood, he makes the tone bars, bridge top and truss rod covers. Collings does the rest. On Nugget mandolins, all the work is done by Mike, nothing is outsourced.
