Wondering also about the best way to attach a strap to my MT. Right now I have it tied around the peghead, but this seems to position the mando a little farther toward my right that I like. Was thinking about tying it around the body/neck heel, underneath the fingerboard extension, or attaching a strap button to the heel.
Any recommendations about this or other options?

Hi Rich. I had an MT and did just that. A thin piece of rawhide lace under the fretboard extension, and the balance was quite good. If you can find it kangaroo hide lace is very very fine and strong and would make a great loop to tie. Good luck
Based on the suggestion of the experienced mandolin player who sold me my MT, I tied it "around the body/neck heel, underneath the fingerboard extension," in your words. Never have had a problem or concern with this, never give it a second thought.

Ditto to the "around the body/neck heel, underneath the fingerboard extension" method. I have had my MT strung up that way since day one (2 plus years now), and it works perfectly.
I have my strap around the headstock on my MT2 and I dont like it! Using a Levy mandolin strap and it's too restricting and uncomfortable. I am having difficulty visulising how you guys are tying the strap exactly, under the fingerboard extension? (sorry I'm probably being stupid) but it seems like a big lump of wood to cover. does it not affect the finish? Do you use a thin string then attach that to the strap?
When I got my used MT-2 from Gruhn's last year I had them install a strap button on the treble side of the neck. I was hesitant to something intrusive but it's worked out just fine for me.

Hi Alistair. I no longer have an MT so no pics, but if you can get some kangaroo leather lacing it will be much smaller than the strap leather and very strong (about the width of the double course of strings), and doesn't get in the way at all.
