I'm a newby to the Mando as well, traded a geetar for an up graded MT a couple months ago.
(gloss top and binding etc)
I am starting to get a little of the hang of it, but not as easily as some of you seem to be. For me it's not the short scale length that is hindering me, but the VERY narrow neck width.
I got the basic chords down and some picking patterns etc. IF I keep it up I will have to spring for the wider nut on one some day.

But LOADS of fun. Wanna knock em out, how about Jimmy Buffet on the Mando. Gets em every time.

Joe,
Beautiful MT you got there! That striped neck is fabulous!

Ed, go get an MT. I am a guitar player first (D2HA), and new to mando. It is different yes, especially using a VERY loose pick grip and one finger for each fret, but like everyone said, very intuitive. Mando is very good for your guitar playing, and is great fun strutting around the house with the stereo blasting fiddle tunes, playing along.

Get on it son !
