i ordered this from a friend of mine who is a Collings dealer in Connecticut, (actually the only Collings dealer in Connecticut). it has an engelmann top (i asked them if they would do this for me and they said - sure)and a custom shaded amber toned burst.

i'd like to thank Alex and the people at Collings for the wonderful job they do. the pictures do not do it justice.

it has great chop. engelmann, the other tonewood!!!!

Mary,

Drop me a line the next time you are heading over to Acoustic Outfitters, and I'll bring my MF-5 over so we can compare and contrast the two instruments. I'd like to hear how the same body size from Collings compares in Adi and Engelmann, as I'm sure you would too.

marymary: a great looking mandolin. i like the pumpkin color. or, as sam bush might say, punkin. and you've been right all along about engelmann: i really like my MT-2V, but i DO miss the MT i used to own. just a different beast altogether... more wood to the sound.

peter, my photography skills are very wanting. the finish is a shaded amber, somewhat like the sunset over the beach at the end of one of those indian summer days.

as for the engelmann, this one is a real "honker". really nice trebles and bass right out of the box.

Any burst is hard to shoot with a camera unless you really know what you are doing with lighting. I think natural lighting is best for shooting a burst.

btw: I've heard on the Mandolin Cafe that the Collings MT is one of the best values for the money. It is a really quality, versatile instrument for a bargain price.

Congratulations MarryMarry. I love the amber burst! I'm sure the Engelmann top sounds great.

My MF #229 is celebrating it's 4th birthday this coming April. I love it more every day.

peter p

my blonde mt is scheduled for delivery around march, peter. they've had a few "tries" but something always ruins the "blonde" part of the order. alex tells me mine will be the last blonde MT they will build.
i saw that one from martin music though. there was also one at acoustic music works too. all gone now. but i am patient, and will wait for the "right" one. besides, i ordered a fuller neck profile and tortoise binding.

kenny, the MT's are absolutely the best buy. you used to be able to get a used one for under $1500. not so now. i love my blackfaced one. i was thinking i might sell it once i get the blonde, but i am quite attached to it.

i bought MT #392 in march of '04 for $1750. i sold it in july of '07 for $1750. it sold in three days. selling it was the dumbest thing i've ever done.
