I play acoustic guitar more as accompaniment than as a solo instrument, but I worked out a couple of basic solo guitar pieces. These are really my first attempt at holding down the melody while keeping a bass line and chord structure. They are simple arrangements that I worked out myself (as I can't read music or tab), but I had a lot of fun. I think the Collings sounds great. I recorded them and posted them on my web site. This is my Collings OM3C with a spaced pair of AKG C414 ULS microphones recorded as a stereo track onto my computer HD. No additional processing. "Edelweiss" and "The Water is Wide." You can find the MP3 files here.

Ed, email on it's way. Too bad it doesn't work right for you. I have Mac and Windows 2000 here and both seem to work fine, even through my firewall.

I especially enjoyed "The Water is Wide," but I've always been drawn to the old hymns. Those melodies have held up to the test of time, and your simple arrangement was quite nice.

Guitar sounds great, even over the little Dell speakers. And the execution is very clean. I practice and practice for the day that I have the confidence to record and share...

Congratulations!

Thanks guys. I give credit to the great guitar for a lot of the "Clean". The Collings OM3C I have just sounds and plays great, and although I did not edit at all, I did record quite a few takes before getting all the way through without any major clams.

Recording is a confidence builder for me. Although there is a certain stress that most people feel when the recorder is on, I also know that no one will hear it unless I want them to. I can do it over and over until I get it right and then let you hear the one time I actually got through it.

I would like to hear your playing, so please make a few recordings.

BRAVO!! Well done. I enjoyed "George" and "Homeward". As a recording novice may I ask if you were using fingerpicks on your recordings or just your fingers?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

No fingerpicks for me. I hold a flat pick and use nails on fingers 2 and 3. Recently I've been reinforcing the tips of my nails with super glue and baking soda so they don't wear down so fast.
