I was in the Alaska Air Boardroom in LAX yesterday when Lyle Lovett walked in for a layover stop on his way to Oregon for a show. Now I’m not one to get stars in my eyes but I am familiar with the mans preference in guitars. What really caught my attention was the guitar case his companion was carrying. I sat for a few wondering if I should bother this man when curiosity got the best of me. Well I walked over and introduced myself and let him know that I’m fond of his work and mentioned that I was a Collings player. Well with that it was the start of a gear head conversation about Collings guitars. He talked a bit If I remember correctly about a 1982 D size that Bill made him that has been his hands down fave guitar as well as the myriad of other Collings he's owned. He then said he was carrying with him a SJ Sunburst and if I would like to give it a strum. Well twist my arm I’ve never played a SJ before and now I wish I hadn’t. What a great guitar GAS pains are starting. Well I thought the story was worth sharing w/ the rest of class. Let it be known that Mr. Lovett was a man of class and of course good taste.

Great story! Lyle tops my list of favorites for his music and person-I-would-most-like-to-bump- into-in-an-airport. With all my Alaska air miles, I might just get my chance.
