Here's an interesting part of an interview with Pablo Casals -- one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century -- when he was 95 years old and still practicing all the time:

"Reporter: Mr. Casals, you're 95 and the greatest cellist that ever lived. Why do you still practice six hours a day?

Pablo Casals: Because I think I'm making progress."

Wow, great story. Thanks for the post. Don't know which there is less chance of for me, making progress in my playing, or reaching 95!

It is great. there was an article- I think it today's SF Chronicle- about an old dude who's still gigging as a uke player (I think that's what it was) at 101 years old. I love that stuff (even more extreme than the Buena Vista Social Club and Standing in the Shadows of Motown, two movies that I find to be real morale boosters for us older players). I know I'm learning, just not fast enough to suit me. We do run outa road eventually. tom

The trick is to run out of gas before you run out of road.

Great quote. Segovia checked out at 94 and was practicing 5 hours a day, not to maintain the status quo, but to improve.

One of my favourites on the relativeness of age:

What I wouldn't give to be 70 again!
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr, at 92, after seeing a pretty girl
