Maybe most of you already know of it, but I found the neatest resource for all types of tabs. I believe it is the FGRC(fingerstyle guitar resource centre) site, but you can access it through www.milaresolsimi.com/fgrc

You have to do a free download of TefView (or TablEdit) and Winzip in order to make it work. All the instructions are there, but once you download a song (and there are tons of them - Beatles, Chet, Christmas tunes , etc etc, etc) TefView gives you the standard notation, the tab, and you can even see the notes being played on the fingerboard, too while you are listening to the song.
Hopefully you'll find it as interesting as I did...I made myself a folder of about 30 songs that I hope to try to learn (at least some of them) Check it out if you're interested! Ken

Ken.

That place is really great! When I get some time, I'm going to make myself a folder of my own. I find that when I do get some tab, I sometimes like to adapt the songs to suit my own likes, you know? It is nice to have a reference of changes and stuff to work with.

Thanks for the link,

John

Glad you might be able to make some use of the suggestion. That folder I started has grown from 30 to 60 songs! The more I play around, the more tunes I unzip and I think that TefView is a great learning resource for somebody like me with less than intermediate skills.
BTW, I love your OM-2HA you posted pics of. What year is it? The tops got some nice coloring going on there, and the rosewood is real nice lookin too. My Om-2H is the sitka top and much newer I think, but I know what you mean about the piano like tones - it blows me away most of the time! Ken

I like the rags. I'm going to try to learn a few of those. The Entertainer is a song I have wanted to learn to play for a while. Something about that song seems really fun. I thought I would try to learn Pickin' in the Wind, but it is a hard song.

My OM2HA is actually brand new. Delivered maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago. I wonder why you thought it was older... Does it look old?

I like the color of the top as well as the coloring of the lines. The density of the grain varies a bit. It is mostly really tight, but there are some wide grain parts in the middle. I really like looking at that top. It is perfectly quarter-sawn. You can really see the medullary rays and silking. Also, there is no grain runout whatsoever. It is bookmatched really nicely. Another great thing about Collings guitars is the joinery. I have a really hard time finding the seam between the two pieces of the top.

I notice that the top of my guitar is pretty thick. Is it the same way with Sitka?

Ad. certainly seems to need time to open up more so than other woods. Have you posted pics of your guitar?

John.

Hey, John....sorry about the error on the "age" of your guitar...when I first looked at the pics I thought (obviously wrongly) that the top was showing some of that nice 'yellowing' that happens after a couple of years or so. I love that look! Mine is changing a little bitafter 7 months, but still pretty light colored - maybe cause it's in the case when not being played?

You sure are right on about the flawlessness of these guitars, and I'm sure everyone here marvels at their guitars on a daily basis! (If I look really hard with light shining on it, I can see 3 or 4 extremely small finish imperfections on the back of mine near the top where my right arm goes over. About the size of pinholes, that must have been there prior to the final layers of lacquer going on - but it is almost imperceptible!)
Re: thickness of sitka top - I'm not sure if it's comparatively thicker or not - others may know more about that.
Re: pics of mine - quality isn't great but if the attached link works, they're there (I am totally 'un-techy' so it likely won't get you there, so open up 'Gear' and click page 7 in bottom right corner and go to thread called "Now I know what the fuss is all about"

Hey, I was really glad to find this link posted. The software is very cool and I've already started using it to learn some songs. Thanks, Ken.

After doing some looking around, I found another site with lots of TablEdit files. It's http://www.angelfire.com/music2/blackmack/

Very useful stuff for the musically challenged, such as myself!

P.S. My first posting...hello everyone!
