My black 12 fret 1932 Gibson L-00 will be delivered tonight via UPS (in approx. 5 hours time) !!! I am very excited!
I purchased it from Hills last year and it was with Tony Noble (vintage guitar expert) for a new brazilian rosewood bridge and a neck reset. It's almost a two months wait but I am sure it's worth it! I only played one other 30's L00, a 36 14 fret sunburst model also with a new bridge and that guitar was fantastic!! While resetting the neck, Tony Noble mentioned to Kevin that he should have bought that guitar and regretted it a lot ... Now, I have very high expectation and I will report back once I spent sometime with it. This is going to be my Blues Machine and I have been practicing my Robert Johnson licks in the past two months with my Collings Baby while waiting!! I think my wife have had enough of me playing Kind Hearted Woman, Malted Milk etc. This message has been edited. Ed-
L-00's are cool to begin with but a black one...even better! Many hours of happy playing! Well maybe not so happy...you'll be playin' da blues... Cheers. Dave |

As BB King always said, Blues should be played happily!
I couldn’t spend any more than an hour with the L-00 last night because it’s already 11:00PM when I got home. But all I can say from the first hour is that it exceed all my expectation! The action is flawless, it only measures 4/64 on 12 fret Bass E and theres no buzz no matter how hard I hit it!! Tony Noble sure did a fantastic job! Frets are shining and the new bridge looks original! I have never play an instrument with such an amazing playability! I’ll do some action measurements of the L-00 and try to lower the action of my 2 Collings to see if I can match the playability! It is Electric guitar action on an Acoustic. The guitar is very responsive to the lightest touch, not sure if it is due to the light weight or the 12 fret neck configuration. And the first impression was that it seems even louder than my OM2HAV with head room to spare. The one word I’ll describe the tone of the L-00 is CRISP. Crystal clear from bass to treble with a dry vintage favor! It is way better than the 1936 martin 018 I once have! I’ll report back when I can spend more time with it! Thanks to Kevin from Hills and Tony Noble for make the purchase such a wonderful journey! ____________________________________________________________ Collings OM2HAV Collings Baby2HBbA |

Hey Ed,
I own a 1934 14 fret L00 (sunburst), and may I send you an empathetic 'congrats'(!)... Mine is pretty much my holy grail. It also has a new bridge and fret job, bone nut & saddle, and a new set of waverlies. It plays amazingly, and yes, very responsive (and light as a feather), with dry vintage flavor. Not sure if it's louder than my OM1ss, but it definitely projects really well. Dig into that bad boy and see where it takes you...and enjoy the ride. best, s.e.m. |

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Loud, responsive, crisp is the three words to describe the tone of the L-00.
Scott, what kind of strings do you use for your L-00? I think they have Elixir Nano 80/20 now and I am thinking of trying a set of Daddario PB light on it. ____________________________________________________________ Collings OM2HAV Collings Baby2HBbA |

Hey Ed,
I do use the D'add PB's. I often go Custom Light myself, as I bend a lot on high strings. Love the tone. You'd be in great shape with the standard lights, as well. (Obviously, going heavier is not such a good idea on an old small body...). Let me know how it works out. best, s.e.m. |
