Has anyone played a Bourgeois OMS? And does anyone have thoughts on tone and overall quality of Bourgeois vs Santa Cruz vs Collings? Thanks.

I have had my new Bourgeois Vintage D for 2 weeks tommorow, I love it great tone very easy playing guitar, very different tone than my D-1A
different woods I realize, but also different than the few D-2Hs sitka or adi. that I have played, the Bourgeois is a very warm tone, build quality to me is right up there with my Collings ,that said the finish is not as glass like perfect as my D-1A the vintage D has a few pits in its surface , it is not horriable & certanly did not detract me from taking her home, now the case is another story, it is a TKL but it is a lesser model than what Collings uses, I find this a disapointment, since the guitar is such a fine piece, but I will purchase a better case maybe a road case & use it for either guitar when I am playing a gig.I have played a few SCGC guitars & never thought all that much of them. not bad just didn't get me going. I can't speak to OMs as you have asked but I believe this to be a fair comparison of my 2 dreads Collings D-1A Bourgeois Vintage D |

Thanks fasthand. I've been a bit hesitant with a Bourgeois just because of my experience with Collings, but maybe I should be more open-minded. And I agree with you that great luthiers should ship their guitars with great cases.

I was dead set going to buy a great used D-2HA
because of my experience with my D-1A, the only condition was 1-3/4" nut, I was sure I could buy one on description and faith in the brand, then I remembered I originally was going to buy a Bourgeois almost 3 years ago, but the Collings deal worked for me due to a dealer that was willing to take 2 Larrivees in trade with some cash, could have been a Bourgeois just as easly back then, I decided to try the Bourgeois & as many Martins as I could, but the Vintage D was just a great guitar so I went with it, the graet thing is there are so many fine makers today, man I can't wait to get home & pick Good luck in your search Collings D-1A Bourgeois Vintage D |

I have a Bourgeois OMS (12 fret/slothead) in Mahogany/Adi. I love it. I compared it to a Collings 0001A when I bought it and ended up going home with the OMS. Both were great guitars; the Collings was a little brighter, more "brilliant" sounding; the Bourgeois was loder, sweeter, and more "woody" sounding. Both were very articulate and clear counding....I would sure have been happy either way, but the Bourgeois just spoke to me a little more.....it was also about $800 cheaper, although I tried to not let that be a factor.

You are going to have a thought time. Both Santa Cruz and Bougeios are great guitars. You will have to pick the tone that suites you best.
IMO the Bougy may have more attention to detail on the finishes. I played a JOM the other day and am really impressed. That may be one to put on my list. Good luck with you selection. |
