I played that guitar at the Martin factory with the cover and I can assure you that it is a total tone killer. It completely muffles what otherwise is a very nice guitar. I played it with and without the cover on it and it was absolutely night and day. It really is just a collector's item for people who are REALLY into the King.

Well, yes and no. The cover was really a protective device especially for Elvis, he was pretty wild up on that stage. I believe that since the guitar went through an amplifier the sound got through quite well, and maybe the cover would come off at home for personal use.

Elvis' early stuff, the Sun sessions things, were done on a D18. After col Parker got ahold of him, it was over. Pity. He was the real thing, then a cartoon.
Since I first seen the picture, I have been searching nonstop to find a cover for my own guitar. Unsuccessfully though. What exactly is that contraption called? It provides you protection when you need it, and freedom when you want it. Probably different cover materials and sizes. It keeps your instrument safe and clean. Everything for the guitarist on the go. If Collings made one, what do you think they'd call it? A Collings Condom?
