I think it's new. Correct me if it's just something I missed previously. But there was a 'Santa Cruz 1934 D' at NAMM with red spruce top, high-grade braz, big sound hole, adi bracing, hide glue and french-polished top. I think Buffalo Bros has one and Vintage Vibes has one coming. Did anyone see/play this at NAMM or Buffalo Brothers? I think it is about $10K street. It seems like lots of luthiers are upping the ante: Bourgeois using hide glue on some models, Slobod and Posch always using hide glue, more and more folks using varnish instead of lacquer.

Sounds like it might be the new Tony Rice Pro, or maybe the prototype. I had heard on one of the Forums that Tony's latest Santa Cruz had a Varnish top, with Lacquer back and sides.

You can see video of Richard Hoover talking about this guitar at NAMM. My eyes bugged out as he described it---and I hadn't seen the price yet. Here's the link to Acoustic Guitar's NAMM videos (this was posted elsewhere on the forum about Bill's pitch; on another note, you can see Jean Larrivee touting their new LP-style electrics with the slogan "your customer's next 'must-have' guitar"!!)

Dang! I breezed past Santa Cruz at NAMM, but I was in such a rush that I only clocked the Firefly über-travel guitar - spendy, but very sweet indeed. Would have loved to have seen the 1934 D.

By the way: anyone else noticed SC's recent development of saddles slanted backwards to even up the break angle? Hoover seems convinced it's making a big difference.

Also plunked Larrivée's LP-style electric: seems to play fine but, to me, it looks like one horribly lumpy design.

I saw the video of that guitar and had to put on a bib to stop drooling. Also loved the Dana B. Ricky Skags Brazilian 42 with Mammoth ivory bridge. Good gravy these guys are all kickin it up a notch.

My friend Jim Lehman(owner of Guitar Resurrection/ Austin, TX) played this guitar at NAMM, and said that it was one of the best sounding guitars he has ever played. Jim has tons of experience and is not easily impressed.
