Just purchased Bourgeois vintage D guitar at a price I couldn't pass up. Have never owned a Bourgeois, but have heard good things over the years. Wondering if anyone has an opinion here about this particular model or Bourgeois guitars in general.

Well since you already have it, form you own opinion and give us a review of it soon.

I have one Bourgie, but I believe mine is called the Sig model. Not exactly sure of some of the model names Dana uses, or the real difference in them.
Mine is dread in Mad. RW with Adi top. One of the nicest guitars I have ever owned. This one is not the loudest dread I ever played, but has a real nice even tone to it that I really enjoy. And it's one of the best playing guitars I even had also, something about the neck shape and profile that just works well for me. I have played a few other Bourgies, and for the majority found them to the really great instruments. They don't seem to have the bite and bark a Collings does, but I would call it a slightly sweeter tone and more even sound. DS 3 Braz 000 1 G MF Mando MT 2 O |

Rick, I haven't actually taken delivery of the guitar just yet. I expect it by the end of the week. Otherwise, as you say, I would certainly be able to formulate my own opinion.
In particular, the reason I bought this guitar (vintage D in Indian/adi) was because I'm looking for something with more of a Martin-type D-28 sort of tone (than my Collings DS2HASB), but built with more craftsmanship than a typical Martin would - and for much less money that a Marquis D-28 or even a Martin Golden Era rosewood dread. And, just to clarify, when I say a Martin-type tone I mean something that is less accentuated in the mid-range than my Collings. Not really sure how to describe what I mean, but I think most of you would know what I'm talking about. I've found a Santa Cruz D/PW that had such tone, but it's a bit too plainly ornamented for my taste. And, finally, the price for this Borgie was just too good to pass up. Figured I'd take a chance on it and, if it's not what I'm looking for, to sell or trade it. |

I have a Vintage D. Like Rick says sweeter sounding than Collings, but with the same balance across the strings. A dealer friend of mine prefers playing a Bourgeois when he's playing alone, but grabs a Moahogany Collings when playing bluegrass with others.

Excellent guitar.
My house is a "foster home" for guitars so I traded it for a Collings OM1. I only have the 1 picture of the back even though the Adi top was as smooth as vanilla pudding. I liked this picture because my reflection (the man in the guitar) shows up in the corner. Larry |

Picked up a Vintage D about three months ago and am very satisfied with its tone and playability. Was using a D-1 before, now its gone. The Vintage D delivers tons of crisp articulation in all registers with a bit more "bottom and warmth" than the D-1 did. Thought at first that was because of the rosewood vs mahogany of the two guitars, but have since played several rosewood dready Collings and the VD still sounds way better to my ears. Got mine used for a great price too. Still play the db C-10 when I need to hear that incredible Collings in-your-face note upon note wash of clear definition. Was going to sell that guitar...must have been nuts. Ce
